Understanding Session View
The session view organizes your project into a grid of tracks and scenes. Each track runs vertically and holds a specific instrument type — drums, synth, or audio. Scenes run horizontally and represent different sections of your song, such as intro, verse, or chorus. You can trigger entire scenes to switch between sections, making it easy to arrange and experiment with song structure without committing to a fixed timeline.
Programming Drums and Melodies
Drum tracks use a step sequencer where each row is a percussion sound and each column is a rhythmic subdivision. Toggle individual steps to create patterns ranging from simple rock beats to complex polyrhythms. Synth tracks use a piano roll editor where you draw notes at specific pitches and lengths. Combine both approaches to build complete musical phrases, then adjust the global BPM and swing settings to shape the groove.
Mixing Techniques
Good mixing starts with volume balance. Set each track's volume so that no single element overwhelms the others. Use the pan control to spread instruments across the stereo field, placing drums at center and other elements slightly left or right. The mute and solo buttons help you isolate tracks for focused listening. Layer these techniques to create a clear, professional-sounding mix entirely within your browser.
Master Effects Processing
The master effects chain applies processing to your entire mix. Reverb adds spatial depth and room ambiance, while delay creates echoes and rhythmic interest. The compressor evens out volume differences and adds punch, and the EQ lets you shape the overall tonal balance by boosting or cutting specific frequency ranges. Use these effects subtly for polish or aggressively for creative sound design.
